'Guillotine' - digital self destruction
Friday 14th July 2000 (Bastille Day)
A 291 TestBed Project
Simon Poulter presents:
'Guillotine' - digital self destruction
Interactive Installation 10pm-midnight (DJs until 2am)
Simon Poulter is currently developing a system of digital execution tools on behalf of DA2 (digital art development agency) and Watershed Media Centre. The tools form part of 'Afterworld', to be presented later this year in Bristol as part of the Clark/Da2 bursary. Those attending 'Bastille Night' will be able to participate in the ultimate 'shake down' research.
Be prepared for computer crashes, headless corpses and mayhem. Bring your own knitting.
Participants insert their head live into the digital guillotine, select a final wish and an afterworld option plan that would suit them. They then press the button for the final time. This themed execution night is ideally suited to those who are bored with the regular themed season elsewhere.
Simon Poulter has an unsurpassed record of achievement in underground intervention. Works include
'UK Ltd', 'Counter Marketing' and 'Hyperphilately'. He lives in the small market down of Bridport.
TestBed is a new 291 initiative that gives artists the opportunity to experiment with, demonstrate and activate new work.
Tested takes the stress out of the private view and the first-time project, allowing artists and curators to sleep at night, safe in the knowledge that the thing works.
