PANTO

Sunday 17th December 2000

New digital multicoloured, semi-abstract projection with a soundtrack of panto music.

An optical pantomime in three dimensions. Panto uses the effect of motion parallax, showing the stage set from many classic pantomimes. Jack’s beanstalk, Cinder’s pumpkin and Widow Twankie’s washhouse all appear as if by magic. The soundtrack consists of music for pantos written by people who never wrote music for pantos - from Ravel to Sun Ra.

Rory Hamilton and Jon Rogers are researchers in Art and Visual Perception at the Royal College of Art. Phil Jones works for the British Antarctic Survey.

Panto: Visual science theory and panto tradition meet in a semi-abstract artwork for all the family. Artwork in 291 Main Gallery, bar and Pasquale’s Disco in 291 Bar, Free entry.
