EDGAR ALBERTO AND HELDER CARDOSO - INSOMNIA (MiniDV, 5 minutes)
There's always a gap between different places. It's the space where we decide which foot to step in first. Left, right or none. We'll know it when we have to
COLIN CROCKATT - INTO THE DRINK (MiniDV, 6 minutes)
Man Overboard.
A curiously involuntary suspension of disbelief whereby the viewer is aware of the banal reality of the images whilst simultaneously believing in the cinematic fantasy that the music has invested them with.
CORAL SHORT - AMAZING GRAVES (MiniDV, 7 minutes)
Amazing Graves is a 7-minute film we made in Glasgow last summer in the Necropolis (the ancient city of the dead), which is attached to the majestic sooty Glasgow cathedral.
It's a gang warfare dance-off combined with an interspecies lesbian love affair involving dandy zombies and rockabilly werewolves. Think Thriller meets West Side Story with some Goodfellas thrown in. Homosexual, a band from London/Germany on Irk Records, graced our movie during the dance party finale. Many of our talented actors are also musicians in Glasgow, and they created all the sound effects and musical accompaniment for the film.
BEN STRUNIN - SHOEGAZER (16mm, 1 minute)
A deluded introvert struggles to escape a self-inflicted rut by buying new shoes which promise him the world
RAFAÈL - EL HIJO ET EL LIBRO (MiniDV, 10 minutes)
A red and black movie about a son and a Korean book
INTERVAL ONE
CARA MARISA DELEON - THE RITA HAYWORTH MASQUERADE (16mm and
MiniD V, Z2 minutes)
Rita Hayworth was the symbol of white American values during World War II. The woman who played her complicated this. She was a Latina called Margarita Carmen Cansino. This experimental documentary journeys through the myth of Hollywood and the disillusion of a goddess.
TYLER COBURN - VILLAGE FESTIVAL (MiniDV, 7 Minutes)
What symbolism lies behind the traditions of the village festival's dances?
RICHARD SQUIRES - A HOMO, A PRETTY BOY AND A FACIAL TIC (MiniDV, 2
minutes)
A Homo. A pretty boy. A facial tic. A three-way situation deteriorates as a suggestive chant is gradually disrupted by a flow of involuntary squeaks, grunts and expletives. Disequilibrium brings the formation of some new vision.
INTERVAL TWO
BRIGITTE HOSEA - LONDON ANGEL (MiniDV, 5 minutes)
A short film using digital imaging and animated collage to visualise the guardian angels of London
SEAN CONWAY - ROCCO PARIS (16mm, 10 minutes)
Rocco Paris' parents have recently died in a car crash. Rocco has the house to himself, no one to answer to, and hundreds of thousands of pounds in the bank. He is sixteen years old. He wants to be a rock star, but his unresolved grief won't allow him to play the guitar. Rocco Pairs begins as stud of loss and ends as the beginning of a love story.
CORDELIA SWANN - THE CITADEL (UK, 1992, 13 mins, video)
'Once there was a woman who lived alone in a fairly prosperous citadel. If the weather was fine, a rare and precious thing occurred. she would go out and explore, or she would do the shopping...
Inspired by the tragedy of Dido and the fall of Carthage, with references to the stoning of Mary Magdalene and the execution of others, The Citadel documents the perceptions, action and dreams of a woman as she experiences, or rather, doesn't experience, national and worldly events. Using a range of stunning imagery within an allegorical structure, The Citadel follows the imaginary journey of a woman through a city of beauty and desolation.
Shot in lyrical documentary tradition, akin to the work of Humphrey Jennings, the piece weaves together a subjective narrative with an idiosyncratic vision of London
