An unflinching and compelling exhibition tackling a subject which projects our most potent fears and terrors: the very real threat of mutant and incurable viral disease. Painting, photography and digital video/sound installations by artists whose collective unconscious has been informed by the iconographic terrors of killer viruses.

Established and emerging artists address how sex has now become dangerous, perverse and contaminated, conceptualising the impact the virus has had on their lives and investing this highly emotive issue with formal dispassionate detachment. The work examines the interface between art and science as well as the preoccupation with love, loss, death, bodily abjection, sexuality and desire.

Stuart Brisley's sculptural altar of shit and Jason Brooks' photorealist painting of an arse-hole, 'Angel of the Apocalypse' are amongst works which reveal how new viral epidemics have changed our representations of the body.

"Art in a post-viral age has been hijacked by a dread of the body which has not been evident in art since pre-Renaissance times", writes the critic Richard Dyer, in his commentary on the exhibition.

The exhibition includes screenings, performances and a one-day philosophical symposium based around the subject of the post-viral.
